The National Health Insurance Green Paper was published by the Department of Health during August 2011. Stakeholders had until 31 December 2011 to make their submission on the Green Paper.  There is no Public Forum in which South Africans can get access to the submissions made nor to debate this proposed radical reform to the South African Healthcare System.

  Community Health Worker’s Health Empowerment Workshop on National Health Insurance

 In October 2013, Social Change together with People’s Health Movements supported by King Sabatha Dalindyebo Municipality has come together in conducting a National Health Insurance Campaign. The aim of the workshops was to strengthen Community Care Workers on National Health Insurance and their role in strengthen Community participation on National Health Insurance. The two day workshop was aimed in reaching about 150 individuals coming from various communities and NGOs across King Sabatha Dalindyebo Municipality.

Due to resource limitation, the two days workshops has reached only 25 people from 15 various organisations. It was then the workshop has covered various CBOs across the OR Tambo District. Those includes: Creative Young Women Group, Edabini-Bafazi, Masithandazisane, Sinakho, Parralegal, Child Walfare, Phumlani, Delta, Catholic Development Centre, Walter Sisulu University (Health Promotion), People’s Health Movement, Masibumbane Development Organisation and other Community Care Workers.

The Workshop was fully funded by the People’s Health Movement South Africa and facilitated by Professor Louis Raynolds.
