I ACT offers a highly participatory curriculum for six group meetings § Learning About HIV § Treatment § Acceptance of Status § Confidence for Disclosure § Healthy Living § Prevention Strategies Through these carefully facilitated and structured sessions, I ACT provides a sense of belonging, a safe and comforting space to share feelings, access to accurate information and a community of support and hope. |

Social Change’s role Social Change is currently the partner organisation with Masibumbane Development Organisation on implementing I ACT in OR Tambo district, province of Eastern Cape, South Africa. This programme is running in four sub- districts within the district namely Mhlontlo, KSD, Nyandeni and Port St Johns sub-districts, . It is running in clinics, CBOs, and Support Groups within the sub-districts. In the future, Social Change seek to establish sustainable support groups based on I ACT proven curriculum to assists demands experienced by the department of health in provision of care and support within health facilities, in particular support group maintenance. Currently, Social Change is in a campaign to raise funds in meeting these demands. Support Groups have to be maintained, stipends have to be issued, referrals have to be made and administration costs have to be paid in ensuring a sustainable programme within various health facilities and communities while it continue to provide trainings and health education/s or talks in sustaining the Support Group programme. Care and Support Services: I ACT Since November 2012, after the I ACT training facilitated by Masibumbane Development Organisation, Social Change has adopted I ACT program as its component on care and support program. Since then, Social Change has fully supported two health facilities Ncekana Clinic and Zwelichumile Clinic doing health talks and support groups. Social Change has continuously supporting various communities doing I ACT educational sessions on various mbizos across ward 20, KSD Municipality. This ward has been chosen as the starting point since the organisation has not been funded yet to cover travel expenses and rely fully on its volunteers contribution. In future, Social Change aims in facilitating sustainable Support Groups across the district. Currently Social Change has 12 I ACT facilitators across OR Tambo District whom are directly funded for their stipends through Expanded Public Works Programme, administered by Ithemba Community Development Services. Supported villages through I ACT sessions are Gwatyu, Ncekana, Mvezo, Krakra, Sdikidikini, Kroza, Ntsilekana, Gqubeni and Dulwini village. Currently, I ACT has volunteers in four sub-districts out of five in OR Tambo District. These includes Nyandeni, Port St Johns, KSD and Mhlontlo sub-district covering the following towns, Ngqeleni, Libode, Port St Johns, Mthatha, Tsolo, Qumbu and Mqanduli. To date, Social change has reached more than 11,332 individuals on I ACT educational session in 9 villages and two health facilities with majority being women over men. For the next financial year, Social Change aims in running sustainable support groups on I ACT sessions across OR Tambo district, reaching more than 30,000 individuals on I ACT sessions. |
